No photos were submitted this month so we don’t have a winner, but we will keep asking Copperfield residents to please send us your pics!

Shane Keating’s office was kind enough to donate some free passes to the Glenbow Museum and the Calgary Zoo, so thank you! We will add them to our prize pool for lucky photo contest winners each month.

Send us your favourite moment in Copperfield for a chance to win a gift card or venue admission ticket! Please forward pics at any time to [email protected]. To view submitted photos and prize winners, please visit our www.facebook.com/mdlca.ca page and the following month’s newsletter.

Community Crime Statistics For September

Compiled in September and published in October, we have a list of the various property-related crimes committed in Copperfield and Mahogany during the month. This is a quick reminder to residents to make sure you take some precautions against thefts and other crimes. Many of these problems can be avoided through simply locking the doors to your vehicles or your house, and these simple actions can help you save money and time in the future.

Southland Leisure Centre Programs

Southland Leisure Centre has announced a number of programs for December, including some free events for both families and individuals. This includes a variety of drop-in sports lessons and groups, ranging from soccer to rock climbing, family swimming, daycare, and other programs. The full details can be found here, and more information about Southland Leisure Centre's available programs can be found at calgary.ca/recreation

Foothills Soccer Club

The Foothills Soccer Club has just released their 2016/2017 schedule for indoor soccer, ranging from U4 to U8 teams. If you're interested in signing up for any of these programs, click here to find out more, and registration information can be found at www.gofoothills.ca.

A Reminder From MDLCA For Dog Owners

Please be responsible and pick up after your dog. Soccer season is now in full swing and complaints have come forward regarding owners not picking up after their dogs (as well as complaints from residents throughout the communities of Mahogany & Copperfield. Here is a reminder where dogs aren't allowed, as city bylaw will issue tickets from $150-$250 in fines. Thank you.

A message from your Calgary Police Service Community Resource Officer

All areas have seen an increase in residential break-ins, vehicle prowlings, and thefts from insecure garages.

In order to proactively prevent these crimes, we would like to pass on the following tips:

  •  Don?t leave your garage door up or unlocked at any time and ensure all home doors and windows are secure.
  • Make sure all valuables are either locked, out of sight or removed from your vehicle, including the electronic door opener.
  • Ensure your vehicle is locked and secure when you leave it, even for a short period of time.
  • Do not leave spare keys in your vehicle, even if they are out of sight.
  • Consider a home alarm system and/or security lighting.
  • Get to know your neighbours so you can all be the eyes and ears of the community.
  • Report suspicious activity to police. Call 911 to report a crime in progress.

If you require any further information, please contact your local Community Resource Officer, Const. Andrew Morton at 403-428-6800.

MDLCA MEMBERSHIP CARDS ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE

You can mail in the page from your Pathways newsletter, stop into or call the office during office hours or purchase one at any of our events. Memberships help with many things including: lighting of the rink through the winter, maintenance on our building, sponsorship of many events like Picnic in the Park, early-bird registrations for Halloween, Easter and Christmas parties, etc. MDLCA members will also receive a discounted building rental rate.
